Quite possibly the biggest tree I’ve ever seen….and quite possibly the only plaid shirt I own.

Life Lately

Aaand it’s Monday again. What? How does that always happen?

This week is going to be a doozy with work but then I have a 3-day weekend coming up – worth hustling a bit more than usual this week! I hope you all had a great weekend. Here’s a few snapshots of my life lately:

1. Views on my run this weekend in the burbs. 2. Must. stop. eating. popcorn! 3. DIY decor for the best mama in the world – more to come on that one! 4. Making brunch 5. Ali’s widdle helper 6. Design in unexpected places 7. Bright lights on Lakeshore Drive 8. Morning walks to work

Weekend Girl Crush – Lara Spencer

I am a Good Morning America fanatic. I watch it every. single. morning while I’m getting ready and drinking coffee. It’s not exactly hard-hitting news, but I just love all of the hosts – even tiny little George Stephanopoulos! But my absolute favorite is Lara Spencer. She’s stunning, articulate, and hilarious and frankly, it’s upsetting that she’s not my friend. (Yet.)

So imagine my surprise when she outed herself on GMA this week; she has a second life as… an interior decorator! She recently authored a book on her love of finding and redoing second-hand pieces. Since I have about four books going on my Kindle right now, I’m holding off on purchasing I Brake For Yard Sales but I dug around to find some of her design work and I’m so glad I did! There are no yard sales in Chicago, but tomorrow Ali and I are going to shop around some of the second hand stores to see what we can find, and I’m so excited.  I’m particularly obsessed with the red and white graphic sign in the last picture… how amazing is that?

It’s Ladder time!

So something in me thought it would be a great idea to carry 7 foot pieces of lumber home on the windiest day of the year.  Seriously, those bitches were like sails.  Sorry mom.  It took years and cost thousands of lives, but eventually I dragged the wood up to my apartment and took out my handy pink hand-saw and got to work.

By the way, this hand-saw is the reason I started the “not pink” list – this is a running tally of things that, in the future, I’ll know not to buy JUST because they’re pink (the idea being that perhaps I should consider qualities of importance rather than their cute  color).  Also on the list: running shoes, dish soap, pens, antacids and bed sheets that pill after a day.  ONE DAY.

Anyway, hours later I had chopped, sanded and painted my way to a partial ladder, only to stand it up and realize that it was completely crooked.  I made the ladder-rookie mistake of measuring the placements for the rungs from the top of the posts instead of the bottom.  Sigh.  Take two led me to a relatively level result and I’ll take it.  Yes, a stiff wind could blow these puppies over, but they lasted through the night and I’m calling it a success!  This weekend Laura and I are scouting the brown elephant for the perfect last touches…wish us luck   Smile
